Meredith Kane is a political power broker from a wealthy and influential family. She is in a loveless marriage and political alliance with Mayor Tom Kane. They are estranged from their daughter Emma Kane.

Biography[]

Meredith attends a campaign event for Governor McCall Cullen where Tom speaks in support of the Governor publicly. Tom backs away from his crony to support young and ambitious state treasurer Ben Zajac to replace him after the event.

Meredith controls funds for school improvement with the Mayor's backing and a publicity event goes awry when journalists notice concealed mold at a supposedly much improved inner city school. She warns the corporation responsible to get their act together because the bad publicity reflects poorly on her and the mayor. Meredith later accompanies Kane to a Latino Association dinner where he receives an award. After the dinner Kane has an icy exchange with Meredith and then retires to his (separate) bedroom.[1]
