Kitty O'Neill is the personal political aide of Mayor Tom Kane, who begins having an affair with Kane's Governor nominee, Ben Zajac. She is fired because of her divided loyalties and goes to work for Catherine Walsh, while also cutting ties with Zajac.

Biography[]

Season 1[]

Kitty attends a campaign event for Governor McCall Cullen where Kane speaks in support of the Governor publicly. Kane however backs away from his crony to support young and ambitious state treasurer Ben Zajac, who he deems a worthy replacement. Kitty grows obvious feelings for Zajac, though she for the time being doesn't act on them.

Work on Kane's redevelopment project for the city's O'Hare Airport is halted when an unpopular cemetery relocation project uncovers ancient Native American paintings. Kane is furious when the construction firm owner Moco Ruiz announces the news on television instead of communicating through his alderman Lalo Mata. Kane hauls Mata over the coals for Moco's mistake, seizing him by the ear and berating him to listen, which Kitty witnesses entirely. Kitty however is ambivalent towards his actions, as she advises Kane when he meets with Native Americans and pledges to preserve the find in a museum.

Kitty later attends a Latino Association dinner where Kane receives an award. Her obvious infatuation with Zajac comes to a climax after the dinner, when she ushers Zajac into a stairwell to have sex with him, beginning their affair.[1]

Kitty begins to become more infatuated with Zajic, as she follows him closely in his campaign, aiding him during events to gain popularity in image. Their affair however does not relent, as after encouraging him before a conference meeting over an alleged hate crime Zajic was videotaped doing, Kitty ushers him away from his wife and kids to be alone. Trying to go into a secluded area to have sex, Zajic impatience rather has him stop her to have public sex in a corridor against a pillar, which after enough struggling, Kitty is able to stop once reason overcomes her sexual desires.
